Custom walnut dining tables in Chicago

Built around the room, not pulled from a catalog.

Statement Chicago designs and builds custom walnut dining tables to order in its Chicago workshop. Each commission begins with the room — its dimensions, architecture, light and the way the table will be used. The wood is sourced board by board from sawmills across Illinois and the Midwest, prices begin at $8,500, and lead time is 10 to 12 weeks.

A flagship commission

River North Trestle Table

Commissioned by an architect designing a formal dining room in Chicago — a table that could anchor a serious room without overwhelming it, built with joinery that rewards a second look.

The top is bookmatched crotch figure walnut — two sequenced boards opened like pages from the same chapter. A small ribbon of sapwood runs along one edge, left intentionally. The wood knows where it came from.
The trestle base is joined to the top with wedged through mortise and tenon joinery — a joint that tightens with use. No hardware. Nothing to fail. The joinery is visible. It is part of what the table is.

Selected for character

No two commissions begin with the same wood.

We source for proportion, color and figure, then show you the boards before the first cut is made.
Finish guidance

A finish selected for how you live.

There is no universally correct finish. We guide the choice based on the wood, the room and the realities of daily use.
Hand-rubbed oil
A low-build, tactile surface that keeps the grain close to the hand and can be renewed over time.
2K polyurethane
Sprayed in-house in our finishing booth for a refined, highly durable surface engineered to resist moisture, heat and daily family use.
