Span Architectural Dining Table

The Span, an architectural white oak dining table built around a single idea: that a table this size should feel light.

The top is solid white oak, pale and warm where walnut is dark and dramatic, milled clean so the straight grain reads quietly across its full length. A table like this gives light back to the room.
It stands on corner legs with the joinery concealed, nothing in the frame that does not need to be there. At better than ten feet it should feel heavy, and instead it looks as though it is barely touching the floor.

Selected for character

No two commissions begin with the same wood.

We source for proportion, color and figure, then show you the boards before the first cut is made.
Finish guidance

A finish selected for how you live.

There is no universally correct finish. We guide the choice based on the wood, the room and the realities of daily use.
Hand-rubbed oil
A low-build, tactile surface that keeps the grain close to the hand and can be renewed over time.
2K polyurethane
Sprayed in-house in our finishing booth for a refined, highly durable surface engineered to resist moisture, heat and daily family use.

The materials

Woods we build with.

Every piece is built from boards we select for you. These are the species we work in most, each sourced and chosen for its grain, width, and character.
Common questions

What clients ask before commissioning.

What is a custom dining table?

A dining table built to order for your room rather than bought off a shelf. You choose the size, the shape, the wood and the base, and we build it from solid hardwood to fit your space and the number of people you seat. No two are alike.

How much does a custom dining table cost?

Commissions begin at $7,000, with final pricing set by the wood, the size, the base and the edge treatment. Every table is quoted around the specific boards and your room.

How many people does it seat?

It is built to your room. Allow roughly twenty-four inches per seat: an eight foot table seats eight to ten, ten feet seats ten to twelve, and we build longer. We size the top and base to your seating and your space.

What wood species do you use?

Black walnut, white oak, claro walnut, Oregon black walnut, monkeypod, blackened Bavarian oak and big leaf maple. Each board is selected for figure and shown to you before the first cut.

Live edge or straight edge?

Both. A live edge keeps the natural edge of the tree; a straight, milled edge reads more architectural. The choice is yours, and it often follows the wood and the room.

How long does it take?

Ten to twelve weeks from the time the commission is confirmed, including board selection, building, finishing and quality review.

How is it finished?

Two ways, your choice. A 2K polyurethane spray finish applied in our commercial booth for a hard, durable surface, or a hand rubbed oil finish that keeps the grain close to the hand and can be renewed over time.

How is it delivered?

The top and base travel separately, and our white glove delivery partners review the access path, assemble the table and set it in place on site. We build and ship nationwide.

Who builds it?

Every piece is built by Jerry Rodman, a furniture maker who has been in business for 11 years, and his team of four carpenters in our Chicago workshop. There is no production line and no outsourcing, and each table is made to be an heirloom.
