The Piece

The Horizon is a conference table built around a single long horizontal line. Twelve feet of white oak, pale and warm, on an open white oak base that lifts the top and lets light through beneath it. Where the Apex is steel and drama, the Horizon is quiet and architectural, a table that furnishes a boardroom without shouting.

The Top

The top is a slip-matched Bavarian White oak veneer, pale and clean, with the straight, even grain and warm honey color the wood is known for. It is cut at two millimeters, several times the thickness of a standard veneer and substantial enough to permit careful refinishing over time. The grain runs across the width of the table rather than down its length: each leaf runs across the roughly four-foot field between the borders and steps in an even rhythm down the table's twelve-foot length, framed on every edge by a four-inch band of solid white oak that squares it. Laid this way, the top reads as one calm, even plane.

The Base

The base is solid white oak, built as an open trestle: two squared rectangular legs, one at each end, joined by a single stretcher that runs the length of the table. The frames are open rather than solid, so the base reads light and the room stays visible through it. The footprint sits inboard of the ends, leaving the length of the table clear for the people seated around it.

The Form

Twelve feet long, five feet wide, at thirty inches standard height, the Horizon seats twelve to fourteen with room to work. The edges are milled clean and square, and the whole piece is kept low and horizontal, expressed through a single white-oak palette, so it settles into a room rather than dominating it.

The Construction

Beneath the veneer, the core is a plywood torsion box: skins over an internal plywood grid of ribs, an engineered structure that stays flat, rigid, and dimensionally stable across the full length of the table, where a solid slab five feet wide and twelve feet long would move and cup with the seasons. The four-inch solid white oak border is joined to the veneered field with concealed loose-tenon joinery cut using the Festool Domino system, so frame and field lock together as one panel and every edge you see and touch is solid wood. The trestle base is solid white oak, and the top draws down to it on our standard German threaded inserts, holding the assembly tight while letting a twelve-foot table come apart for delivery and go back together on site. Power and data can be integrated into the top, positioned to your seating plan and routed out of sight through the base.

The Finish

Every Horizon is built to order in our Chicago workshop. The white oak is finished one of two ways: a 2K polyurethane spray finish, applied in our commercial spray booth, for a hard, durable surface that stands up to daily use, or a hand rubbed oil finish using Odie's Universal Oil, which keeps the grain close to the hand. A conversation about the room and how the table will be used points to the right one.

Built Around You

Every Horizon is built to order. The white oak top and base shown are one expression; yours is sized to your boardroom and the number of seats you need, in the species and finish that suit the room.

The Top

Slip-matched Bavarian White oak veneer, cut at two millimeters, over a plywood torsion-box core, framed with a four-inch solid white oak border, as shown. The grain runs across the width of the table, and the border is joined to the field with concealed loose-tenon joinery cut using the Festool Domino system.

The Base

Open solid white oak trestle as shown. The top draws down to the base on our standard German threaded inserts and separates from it for delivery, and alternate base treatments are available if the room calls for a different line.

Power and Data

Integrated power and data are available and specified for most boardroom commissions. Power outlets, USB and USB-C charging, and HDMI and data ports can be set into flush or pop-up modules in the top, with cabling routed out of sight through the base and tied into a floor box where one exists. Power and data are quoted by configuration, separate from the base table and not included in the starting price.

For Your Project

We collaborate with clients, designers, and architects on commercial commissions, providing shop drawings and finish samples for review and approval and coordinating on materials, delivery access, and installation.

Size

The piece shown is twelve feet long by five feet wide, seating twelve to fourteen. Custom lengths and widths are available, sized to your boardroom and the number of seats you need.

Species

White oak as shown. The Horizon can also be built in black walnut, claro walnut, and other species on request.

Finish

2K polyurethane spray finish applied in our commercial spray booth, or hand rubbed oil finish using Odie's Universal Oil. A conversation about the room and how the table will be used will point to the right finish.

Before you commission

What is the Horizon White Oak Conference Table?

A twelve-foot white oak conference table with a slip-matched veneered top framed by a four-inch solid white oak border, carried on an open solid white oak trestle base. Long, low, and expressed through a single white-oak palette, it is the quiet, architectural counterpart to our steel-based Apex, built to order in our Chicago workshop.

How much does the Horizon cost?

The Horizon begins at $10,500 for the twelve-foot configuration shown, quoted by commission. Power and data are quoted separately and are not included in the starting price. Final pricing also depends on the species and the finish. Every table is built to order and quoted around your room.

What are the dimensions and how many does it seat?

The table shown is twelve feet long, five feet wide, and thirty inches tall, seating twelve to fourteen with room to work. Custom sizes are available, sized to your boardroom.

Why is the top a veneer rather than solid boards?

So the surface can be laid the way it is and hold its line. The top is a Bavarian White oak veneer, slip-matched with the grain running across the width, and it is cut at two millimeters, several times thicker than a standard veneer and substantial enough to permit careful refinishing over time. It sits over a plywood torsion-box core, which keeps a top this size flat and dimensionally stable where a solid slab five feet wide and twelve feet long would move and cup with the seasons. The four-inch border is solid white oak, so every edge you see and touch is real wood.

What is a torsion-box core?

It is an engineered core built from skins glued over an internal grid of plywood ribs, like the structure of an aircraft wing. It is rigid and light for its size and holds its shape, which is why we use it for large conference tops that must keep their line over a twelve-foot span.

How is the top built and joined to the base?

The top is a two-millimeter slip-matched Bavarian White oak veneer over a plywood torsion-box core, with the four-inch solid white oak border joined to the veneered field by concealed loose-tenon joinery cut using the Festool Domino system, so frame and field become a single panel. The finished top draws down to the solid white oak trestle base on our standard German threaded inserts, which hold it tight and let the table come apart cleanly for delivery.

What is the base made of?

Solid white oak, built as an open trestle: two squared rectangular legs joined by a single stretcher running the length of the table. The base is set inboard of the ends so the length stays clear for the people seated, and it separates from the top for delivery.

Can power and data be integrated?

Yes, and most boardroom commissions include it. Power outlets, USB and USB-C charging, and HDMI and data ports can be set into flush or pop-up modules in the top, with the cabling routed out of sight through the base and tied into a floor box where one exists. Power and data are quoted by configuration and are not included in the starting price.

Can it be built in a custom size?

Yes. Length, width, and height are built to your room and the number of seats you need. The torsion-box construction scales cleanly, so larger and smaller versions hold the same flat, even surface.

What wood species are available?

White oak as shown, and the Horizon can also be built in black walnut, claro walnut, Oregon black walnut, and blackened Bavarian oak. Each is selected and shown to you before fabrication begins.

How is it finished?

Two ways. A 2K polyurethane spray finish applied in our commercial spray booth gives a hard, durable surface for daily use. A hand rubbed oil finish using Odie's Universal Oil keeps the grain close to the hand. We recommend the finish based on the room and how the table will be used.

How long does a custom Horizon conference table take?

Build time is 10 to 12 weeks from the time the commission is confirmed and the deposit is received. We allow additional time up front for shop drawings, finish samples, technology coordination, and design-team approvals when we are working with an architect or facilities team.

Do you work with architects and interior designers?

Yes. We collaborate with clients, designers, and architects on commercial commissions, providing shop drawings and finish samples for approval and coordinating on materials, engineering, delivery access, and installation.

How is a table this large delivered?

The top and base travel separately, so a twelve-foot table moves into the room in pieces rather than one. Our white glove delivery partners review the access path, assemble the table, and set it in place on site. We build and ship nationwide.

Who builds the Horizon?

Every piece that leaves Statement Chicago is built by Jerry Rodman, a furniture maker who has been in business for 11 years, and his team of four carpenters in our Chicago workshop. There is no production line and no outsourcing.
